Wiltshire Masters Championships
On the 16th February 2008 Diane & David Weston represented Trowbridge at the Wiltshire Masters Championships at Tidworth.
Masters swimming is for anybody who is 25 and over, with no upper age limit.
(Note there is also a pre masters section for swimmers aged between 19 and 24).
There are thirteen individual events in the Wiltshire Masters Championships being 25M, 50M and 100M at each of the four strokes and 100M IM. There are also a number of relay races. These are currently held over three Saturday evenings as follows:
February16 th 2008 at Tidworth
June 7th 2008 at Swindon and
October 4th 2008 at Salisbury.
The events at Tidworth on February16 th were 25M Breaststroke, 50M Backstroke, 100M Butterfly and 100M freestyle, Men’s and woman’s 100M Medley relay for a combined age of 120+, mixed 100M Medley relay for a combined age of 200+, mixed 200M Freestyle relay for a combined age of 76+, Men’s and woman’s 100M Freestyle relay for a combined age of 160+.
On the day the ages of the competitors ranged from 19 to 85 and the abilities ranged similarly! It was a very relaxing evening made more so by the many familiar faces amongst the competitors and the officials; and the event was very well run. Gold, silver and Bronze medals were given for each 5 year age band from 25 – 29 to 85 – 89, (pre masters age 19 – 24 were in a separate age group). Diane came second in the 100M Butterfly, equal fourth in the 25M Breaststroke and won gold in the woman’s 100M Freestyle relay for a combined age of 160+ and silver in the woman’s 100M Medley relay for a combined age of 120+ having been asked by Bradford and Warminster to make up their teams. Diane also swam the 50M Backstroke. David came fourth in the 100M freestyle.
On June 7th 2008 at the Link in Swindon it would be great if Trowbridge could have more swimmers and enter relay teams made up entirely of Trowbridge swimmers. If you are interested please contact Diane or David Weston or one of the Trowbridge committee.
