Winter League

The Winter League is a competition between 25 or so teams drawn from clubs in Wiltshire. The teams are divided into two divisions. The 1st Division contains the top 12 teams from the previous year, the 2nd Division the remainder.

The first 3 rounds of the competition consist of a number of concurrent galas where the 1st division teams are drawn randomly against each other in two galas and the 2nd divisions in a number of galas depending upon pool availability and size.

The galas consist of 39 relay events. For each event the times for the 25 teams are put into order and points awarded, 25 for the fastest down to 1 for the slowest. Disqualified or absent teams do not score anything for that event.

After the 3rd round the points are totalled and the teams put into order, the top 12 forming next seasons 1st Division and the rest the 2nd Division.

There is then a final round where the teams are allocated to galas in the order they have finished. In this round the points are allocated on position at the gala with the winner of the gala featuring the top 6 teams is declared champions.

To add interest, each gala in every round is treated as a mini competition, with points allocated on position and the team with the most points being declared gala winner at the end.
