The Wiltshire Masters

The Wilts Masters is a well attended series of events (around 100 swimmers normally take part) which seems to maintain its popularity.  It is held over three rounds at three different venues over the year.  Points are scored for the Team and Individual for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and awards are made for the top scoring individuals over 40 yrs of age and under 40 yrs of age. There is also an award for the top scoring team which Salisbury won for 2005. For results involving Trowbridge swimmers Click here and for team scores Click Here.

I am still considering entering a West Wilts Force 5 Masters Team for 2006, I have the support of some of the Bradford-on-Avon swimmers but others did not seem so keen - I think I will enter as WWF5M anyway and see if others follow suit perhaps in 2007.

For those who don't know..... Masters swimmers compete in 5 year age bands from 25-34, 35-39, 40-44 etc. In competitions swimmers are put into suitable heats based on their entry time so they swim against swimmers of similar ability regardless of age.  There is now a 20-24 age band where individuals can win individual medals but cannot score towards the team/individual points totals.

The 'lucky' swimmers may also be invited to swim for the Wilts County Masters team in the National and Western Counties Inter-County events held once a year.  The Wilts ladies team has been particularly strong this year. In June the Western Counties Inter County Masters were held in Keynsham, results were as follows: Devon 166, Dorset 144, Wiltshire 104, Gloucestershire 91, Somerset 75

Anyone interested in competing let me know and I can forward details of events etc. Since I have been at Trowbridge ASC I don't think we ever managed to field a relay team,  so there's a challenge !
