SPRINT AWARD CERTIFICATES

Sprint award sessions are normally held three times a year, usually around March, June and December at Trowbridge Pool. They provide swimmers with target times to aim for and the Club with times for some swimmers, particularly the younger ones, whose times may not otherwise be provided. It also gives us a useful check on the progress of swimmers who do not swim in galas.

Certificates are presented to those who swim within the qualifying times for the four strokes plus the Individual Medley. Qualifying times are as follows:

SPRINT AWARD DISTANCES

All Bronze events with the exception of IM are 25m (1 length)
All Silver and Gold events with the exception of IM are 50m (2 lengths)
All Individual Medley (i.e. Bronze, Silver and Gold) events are 100m (4 lengths)

8 YEARS AND UNDER CUPS

In addition, there are two special events specifically for the 8 years and under age group (age on day of swim). Cups are presented to the fastest boy and girl in the under 8 age category who swim 25 metres in each of the front crawl and backstroke events, regardless of whether times qualifying for a certificate are swum.

The idea of the 8 years and under cups is to encourage our younger swimmers to compete, since competitive swimming outside the Club does not start until age 9.

PLATINUM TIMES

In addition, a Platinum award can be swum. These are designed to give swimmers who have achieved Gold in one or more of the strokes a further target to aim for. All Platinum swims are 100m (4 lengths) in the four main strokes, with different target times for boys and girls. Those achieving Platinum times will be presented with a medal. The Platinum times are as follows:
