Trowbridge Amateur Swimming Club

TROWBRIDGE AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB
WILTSHIRE, ENGLAND

Our Club exists to promote swimming as an interest and to develop it to its fullest potential. In the process, participation within the Club also promotes teamwork, self respect, confidence and social interaction. Trowbridge Swimming Club is run for the swimmers and for the swimmers alone.

Care is taken to ensure not only the physical safety of the swimmers, but that the environment within the Club is one where he/she can feel happy and secure. We aim for the highest standards, all our teachers and coaches being Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) qualified, and our Lifeguards are Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) qualified. In addition, the names of all those who actively come into contact with the children are registered with the ASA for child protection purposes. All Club helpers, whether poolside or in an administrative capacity, are volunteers - in many cases they are parents who have a child or children in the Club. Without them the Club would not be able to exist.

Trowbridge Swimming Club has an impressive success record within Wiltshire, regularly producing medal winners and finalists at the County Age Group Championships each year - we have amongst our swimmers. We regularly produce finalists at the Western Counties age group championships and also have swimmers of National standard. We are indeed proud of all the Champions we have produced.

The construction of the new Clarendon Pool at Trowbridge in 1996 proved a turning point for our Club - no longer were we quite so dependent on facilities outside our own home town for training sessions; at last we had a facility which we could call our own. The effect of the new pool was to breathe new life into the Club. Since then, Trowbridge Swimming Club has gone from strength to strength in competition - and in spirit. Having settled into our new facility, we are now looking at further ways to improve. In this respect our relationship with DC Leisure, who operate the Clarendon Sports Centre including the pool, is being examined, with the aim of expanding and placing on a more formal footing the partnership which already exists, hopefully to our mutual benefits.

As a Club, we also place importance on the social aspects. We believe in having fun as well as working hard at swimming. Various social events are organised throughout the year, but perhaps worth a special mention is the annual exchange visits which take place between Trowbridge Swimming Club and that of Trowbridge's twin town in Germany, Leer. As far as we know, this type of relationship is unique within swimming clubs in Wiltshire, and the visits are always very popular.

Within this website we have tried to include the basic type of information which we believe will give a flavour of our Club. Not every aspect has been covered. However should you wish further information, please approach or phone any member of the Committee or poolside official - they will be only too happy to assist. Its contents will also provide a useful point of reference for existing Club members.

If you have just joined our Club, I extend a warm welcome to you and your child/children. We hope your time with us will be long, enjoyable and rewarding. If you are thinking of applying to join Trowbridge Swimming Club, I hope the information we have provided here will help you decide.
