Postal Swim 2006
Trowbridge swimmers excelled in the British Long Distance Association one-hour postal swim as they collected a haul of medals.
The event, in which competitors had to swim as far as they could in one hour, attracted swimmers from all over the United Kingdom and also a team from France, but the youngsters from Trowbridge proved they were up amongst the best.
Many of the swimmers excelled winning medals not only in their individual age groups, but also in the team events.
Kieran Hill (11) secured individual gold in the boys 10-11 years swimming 4,190m, and along with Jack Griggs (11) and Sam Smith (11) also took home gold in the team event, swimming a combined distance of 11,450m.
Sophie Purnell (11) swam 4,150m, taking the individual silver medal in the girls 10-11 years age group, teaming up with Georgina Barnes (11) and Molly Borthwick (10) to take gold in the team event, swimming a combined distance of 11,105m.
In the boys 12-13 years, Jack Borthwick (12) swam 4,465m to secure the individual silver medal, and together with Carl Greenan (12) and Chris Weston (12) took the silver medal in the team event, swimming 12,885m.
In the girls 14-15 years, Rebecca Smith (14), Anita Walton (14) and Rachel Hampshire (14) teamed up to win bronze, swimming a combined distance of 11,710m, with the 14-15 year boys team narrowly missing a medal in 4th place.
Club Coach Paul Leather was delighted with everyone’s performance. “This is only the 3rd year we have entered this event and to come away with more individual and team medals than last year is a real achievement.”
