POOLSIDE CONDUCT
(CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SWIMMERS CHOSEN TO RACE IN GALAS)
All
swimmers must train during the week of the Gala.
League
galas are important. You will be given dates for these in advance and
should arrange to be available to swim.
If
you cannot swim for any reason (e.g. you are ill) please let the Chief
Coach or the person named on the Gala Card know as soon as possible.
Trivial excuses for not swimming may exclude a swimmer from future Galas.
Any
problems with transport to and from the coach or pool, can be sorted
if you let somebody know.
Good
behaviour is expected at all times - especially on the poolside and
in the changing rooms.
Swimmers
are expected to stay on the poolside and “cheer on” the
rest of the team when they are not swimming and when they have finished their races. Permission must be obtained
from the Chief Coach to leave the poolside. Younger swimmers who have
finished all their races may be allowed to shower and partially change
under supervision and then return to the poolside with the rest of the
team. All swimmers should be available to take part in any end of gala presentations and celebrations.
Club
T-shirts must be worn between races. Swimmers should bring extra towels.
Track suit bottoms or shorts are also a good idea to wear on poolside
to keep warm between races.
Diluted
still drinks from a water bottle are allowed but fizzy drinks should
not be consumed during the Gala. If possible, a high-energy meal (e.g.
pasta) should be consumed a couple of hours before the Gala. Nothing
should be consumed immediately prior to racing.
NOTE: No glass bottles are to be brought onto poolside.
Club
hats and black costumes should be worn for all races. Hats can be purchased
at most sessions and Galas.
Most
importantly ENJOY YOUR GALA. Go all out to WIN YOUR RACE and to achieve
a personal best time. Keep a logbook of your Galas, what races you were
in and your times - that way you will be able to see how you are improving.
GOOD LUCK.
