CLARIFICATION OF POLICY

Following a recent incident, the Administration Committee, along with the Safety Officer, needed to investigate certain safety and insurance matters. The intention of this memo is to clarify TASC’s policy relating to these matters.

SAFETY

TASC has a very good safety reputation and is approved by ASA to run swimming training sessions. It has an enviable amount of trained, qualified and experienced poolside helpers. The ASA recommends that a ‘Level 2’ teacher should be present at training sessions. TASC strives to achieve this and on more than 95% of occasions it achieves this. When a Level 2 has not been available, TASC has done what it can to ensure that children can swim safely.

Therefore, all things considered, there should never be an occasion where a training session is terminated abruptly, unless there are no poolside helpers at all. Termination of a session can result in other safety risks.

INSURANCE

The ASA insurance policy reflects the above TASC policy. Swimming clubs should strive to have a Level 2 present, however when this is not possible the insurance is still valid.
