District Medal Glory

For Trowbridge Amateur Swimming Club their training and hard work paid off in early May when six teams competed in the Western Counties ASA Relay Gala held at Millfield School.

Competition was high with over 14 teams from the South West competing over 200 meters in medley and freestyle relay races and all six Trowbridge teams made it through to the finals in both disciplines.

In the boys 9/10 years age group,  David Williams, Kieran Slater, Joshua Garg and Jordan Edwards took silver in both finals, swimming a combined time of 2.27.10 in the freestyle relay.  In the same age group, Emma Davies, Molly Borthwick, Emma Hill and Katherine Green all swam well to secure 7th place in both the freestyle and medley relays.

In the boys 11/12 age group, Kieran Hill, Jack Griggs, Mathew Griffin and Chris Weston repeated the younger boys wins, taking silver in both finals, swimming a combined time of 2.09.54 in the freestyle relay. The girls team of Katie Pugh, Georgina Barnes, Rachel Williams and Sophie Purnell also swam extremely well, swimming 2.20.32 to secure bronze in the medley final and 4th in the freestyle.

For the boys 13/14 years, Ollie Clark, Carl Greenan, Jack Borthwick and Sam Purnell took bronze in both the freestyle and medley relays, swimming a superb 1.51.76 in the freestyle final.

Finally, the girls 15/16 years team of Anita Walton, Charlotte Barnes, Kristina Gilbert-Pike and Rebecca Smith swam against tough competition, finishing 5th in the freestyle and securing bronze in the medley with a time of 2.13.59.

Once again, the dedication and hard work of Paul Leather, Head Coach, and the swimmers has proved that the Club is going from strength to strength and this years eight medals is a record for the Club since it started competing in the District Relay Races.
