Districts 2006

The Amateur Swimming Association South West Region held their 2006 Age Group Championships earlier this month at Millfield and young Trowbridge swimmers once again proved their worth, with 10 year old David Williams the star of the Club.

For the 10 year olds, this was their first District level competition and they were all very nervous. However, not only did David finish 3rd overall in his age group, but won silver medals in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle finals, and bronze medals in the 100 and 200 backstroke, as well as reaching the finals in the 200 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, and 200 IM. Kieran Slater also reached the finals of the 100 and 200 breaststroke, finishing 6th overall in his age group.  Emma Hill, the Club’s only 10 year old female District qualifier, also swam well, coming a very worthy 14th overall.

In the 11 year age group, Kieran Hill made it through to the finals of the 100 and 200 breaststroke, narrowly missing medals in 4th place, and swam well in the 200 back final, taking 8th place overall in this age group.  Jack Griggs also swam well in the 100 fly final coming a valiant 7th whilst Sam Smith finished 9th in the 100 fly heats, narrowly missing battling it out with Jack in the final.  Georgina Barnes took silver in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke whilst Sophie Purnell came 4th overall in the 11 year old girls age group, reaching six finals and taking silver in the 200 freestyle and bronzes in the 800 free and 200 IM

Rachel Williams represented the Club’s 12 year old age group, not only reaching the finals of the 200 fly, 200 back and 200 IM, but achieving a bronze medal and National Time in the 400 IM. Well done Rachel.

In the 13 year old age group, Jack Borthwick finished 4th in the 1500 free with Chris Weston and Carl Greenan also swimming well, Chris finishing 5th in the 100 back final.

In the oldest age group, the 14 year old boys, Oliver Clark came a well deserved 5th in the 200 breaststroke final after a very strong swim, whilst Sam Purnell took bronze in the 1500 freestyle and 7th overall in the age group.

Head Coach Paul Leather was thrilled with the Club’s achievements; “all the children worked really hard to achieve District Qualifying Times and this has been a very successful competition for the Club”.
