British Long Distance Association

Trowbridge swimmers excelled in the British Long Distance Association one-hour postal swim as they collected a haul of medals.

The event, in which competitors had to swim as far as they could in one hour, attracted swimmers from as far away as Florida, USA, but the youngsters from Trowbridge proved they were up amongst the best.

Many of the swimmers excelled winning medals not only in their individual age groups, but also in the team events.

Carl Greenan, Matthew Griffin and Sam Smith  took gold in the boys 10 – 11 year group with  Andrew Theban, Nick Williams and Charlie Smith also securing a gold medal in the boys 14 – 15 year age group.

Meanwhile Charlotte Barnes, Alice Johnson and Rebecca Smith  took silver in the girls 12-13yrs event whilst Laura George and Annabel Weston secured bronze for 14 – 15 year age group.

In the individual events, Darren Heslop was the star of the Club, swimming a staggering 5,020m  to claim gold medal position in the mens open age group.  Carl Greenan, 11, claimed bronze whilst Andrew Theban and Charlotte Barnes narrowly missed medals in 4th and 6th positions.

Club Coach Paul Leather was delighted with the youngster’s performance.  “This is only the 2nd year we have entered this event and to come away with individual and team medals is a real achievement, surpassing our great performance last year”.
