Chairman’s Report

First of all, looking back on 2006. I start with poolside, and yet again what great year. We now provide our swimmers with five nights and two mornings of highly professional coaching and for this we must thank our coaches, teachers and volunteers for their hard work and dedication. Also a big thank you to our lifeguards – without these the Club would have to pay DCL for providing cover.

Thank you to all our swimmers – their behaviour has been impeccable and they are good ambassadors both for the Club and Trowbridge as a whole.

Swim 21 took over 6 months to achieve but was well worth the hard work from everyone involved. As a result of gaining Swim 21 status the Club is now accessing more funding from the ASA and Club management as a whole has improved. A big thank you to John Arnold for all his hard work putting together the evidence file which was of extremely high quality.

Our Leer Exchange Visit went well, with this being the 17th year of the exchange and a tradition the Club needs to keep going.  This year was a great event and again a big thank you to Barbara Smith, Sue Arnold, Stewart Cuthbert and Helen Fricker for working so hard to make the weekend such a success.

Funding raising has gone well in 2006. Stewart Cuthbert managed to raise £500 for the Leer Exchange and Chris Jefferys and Alun Williams are working hard to raise money for the Automatic Timing Equipment (ATE).  A big thank you also to all the children who did the bag packing!

Our Website is looking great and is constantly updated– thanks again to John Arnold. Swimmers and parents are now using the site much more and it has even attracted new swimmers to the Club.

Now looking ahead to 2007.

The priority will be firstly to complete on our objective to buy our own ATE. We will need to do this mostly through fundraising, but assuming the club finances are going well we may be able to top up funds in order to buy around summer time. This way we can get it installed etc in time for the club championships.

The second priority for 2007 will be to start to organise our very own ‘Trowbridge Open Meet’. This will depend upon having the ATE equipment in place. It may by 2008 before it takes place, but the prep work will need to start well before that.

Treasurer’s Report

Thanks for Dave Weston for auditing the accounts which show a steady year.

Thanks to Jane Noden for stock, Judith George for Trowbridge membership, Bridget Gardiner for B-O-A membership, Val Hampshire for Lifeguards and Alma Borthwick and Liz Smith for the open meets.

06/07 accounts will show a shortfall this time next year due to Leer (which only cost the Club an additional £400 this year but was well worth it) and the Club Championships being re-vamped to include the distance swims,  which means the need to purchase an extra 60 new trophies.

Head Coaches Report

In the absence of Paul and Steve, Pete expressed the Club’s thanks to all our officials who have helped out over the year.

The Club did extremely well this year at County and District Level.

Charlotte Barnes is now British Junior 200m Breaststroke Champion and Ed Jefferys was named Captain of the Wiltshire Boys Team for the next 2 years.

The Club finished 8th in the Junior Southern League, our Winter League A Team finished 3rd, and the B Team finished 11th. In the Summer League, our A Team finished 3rd Division 1, and our B Team finished 1st in Division 4 meaning they move up a division next year.  Well done to all swimmers and thanks to Michele for sorting out the teams and Steve Smith for arranging transport to the competitions.

The Club need new teachers – please see Steve Smith who is arranging a Level 1 Teachers Course early in the new year.

Thanks to Mike Greenan for organizing Swim 21 – a great achievement for the Club.

Thanks to the Bradford On Avon ‘Team’.

Finally, although we had to say farewell to Paul, we welcome Steve Fivash and look forwarding to the Winter Leagues!!!

Vote on proposed constitution changes

Necessary changes to the Club’s Constitution were approved, seconded and agreed by those attending.

Thank You’s

A further present from the kids was to be given to Paul (now done – he likes his slippers!).

Call For Volunteers

Although we have the minimum to form a proper committee, we always need more help and support. The more people who are prepared to help, the less we have to lean on key individuals.

We also get lots of good ideas from people for how the club could improve. These ideas are always welcome, but are even more welcome when accompanied by offers of help to make them happen.

If you wish to volunteer to help in any way, contact the committee either in person or via the website.

Any Other Matters Arising

Val Hampshire explained that her role is to ensure the safety of all the swimmers and asked that parents support her in this role.

Planning for next year’s Leer Visit should start immediately.

The Pantomine for Bradford On Avon children to continue this Christmas.

As WWF5 are no longer going to be swimming at Bath Uni on Wednesday evenings, it was asked whether Trowbridge were going to consider taking on this training session.  We would not need to provide lifeguards for this session but would need to provide coaching.

ACTION:   To find out how many parents would be interested in their children swimming this session at Bath.  Decision to be taken at Poolside Meeting.

Comment was made regarding the fact that it would appear that the majority of volunteers for WWF5 appear to be Trowbridge parents.

ACTION: Mike Greenan to investigate this matter further.
