It was an extremely successful weekend for thirteen swimmers from Trowbridge Amateur Swimming Club when they travelled  to compete in Nuneaton & Bedworth Swimming Club’s annual  Distance Meet on 3rd/4th December 2005. Many of the swimmers swam all disciplines, competing over 200m and 400m over the two days.

Competing against an exceptionally high standard of swimmers from Clubs such as City Of Leicester, Leamington Spa, City Of Derby and City of Cambridge, Trowbridge swimmers grabbed not only District Qualifying Times, but a silver medal.

In the youngest age group (9/10 years) David Williams brought home the silver medal in the 200m Backstroke, gaining a District Qualifying Time in this event, as well as the 200m Breaststroke and 200m IM. Fellow swimmer Kieran Slater also achieved a District Qualifying Time in the 200m IM finishing 9th with Joshua Garg narrowly missing the time in 11th place.  Emma Hill narrowly missed District Times, but swam well, finishing 9th in the 400m Freestyle, 7th in the 200m Butterfly and 7th in the 200m Backstroke.  Molly Borthwick also battled hard, again narrowly missing District Times competing in the 400m/200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke (12th) and 200m Breaststroke (16th). Katherine Green also swam well in the 200m Backstoke and 200m Breaststroke.

In the 11/12 years age group Sam Smith, Kieran Hill and Jack Griggs all competed to a high standard, with all three boys achieving District Qualifying Times in the 200m Butterfly. Kieran also achieved the District Qualifying Time in the 200m IM whilst narrowly missing the 200m Backstroke by hundredths of a second.  Emily Green swam well in the 200m Backstroke and 200m Breaststroke.

In the 13/14 years ago group, Alice Baker finished a well deserved 5th in the 200m Butterfly, within the District Qualifying Time, and a respectable 8th in the 400m Freestyle and 11th in the 200m Freestyle. Rachel Hampshire also swam these races, as well as the 200m Backstoke in which she came 15th.

In the oldest age group, 15+,  Charlie Smith achieved 15th place in the 200m Backstoke before unfortunately having to retire from the competition due to an injury.

A great weekend was had by all and the Club look forward to taking more swimmers next year.
